About Pre-Teaching

The Georgia Tech Pre-Teaching program supports undergraduates, graduate students, post-docs, and alumni considering a career in K-12 education. We can connect you with career exploration opportunities such as internships, volunteer activities, and shadowing that will help you in your decision process. We can also explain state certification, public and private school options, and provide graduate school application and job search support.  From first year to professional, we are here for you!

Georgia Tech advisors across campus are switching to a new advising system called Advisor Link as of September 14, 2020. GradesFirst will no longer be used. Go to https://advisor.gatech.edu/ to make an appointment,.
Appointments made for any time after September 11 will be transferred over into the new system.  Please email Susan Belmonte, the GT Pre-Graduate Advisor, directly at sbelmonte@gatech.edu if you have questions or problems making an appointment.

Information regarding how to set up appointments in the new system, go to https://neweraadvising.gatech.edu/student-resources.

GT Pre-Graduate Advising offers remote advising appointment and drop-ins as part of our regular practice. Due to COVID-19, we will using a hybrid model of advising from August 17, 2020 until further notice.  Click here for updates about GT's response to COVID-19

Full-length advisement appointments
We are offering hybrid services in the fall. Regularly scheduled appointments will be held via BlueJeans teleconference, but advisors will also be available for in-person appointments by request.   You can still make a full-length appointment through Advisor Link at https://advisor.gatech.edu/.
In-person appointments are available on Tuesdays only for pre-teaching advising.
Please note that teleconferencing makes ensuring FERPA privacy difficult. Advisors will conduct video advising in a private location, and we recommend that students do the same to limit the amount of information which could be overheard by others in the vicinity. By agreeing to videoconference-advising, students are confirming they understand this situation.
Appointments are virtual unless you indicate you would like an in-person appointment. To do this, enter a comment in the GradesFirst appointment request or respond to your GradesFirst confirmation email.  Because we must secure a safe space, we may need to reschedule your appointment.
All advisees and advisors are required to wear a mask when inside buildings on campus, including for advising appointments.

All appointments are scheduled for Eastern Daylight Time or Eastern Standard Time (November 1, 2020 – March 13, 2021). Students located in remote time zones may contact their advisor directly for scheduling options that better fit their schedules.

Drop-in hours
We are still offering virtual pre-graduate drop-in hours via BlueJeans as we have since March 2020.  There are no in-person drop-in hours in an effort to maintain the safety and health of advisors and students. Group online advising will be available through the BlueJeans interface. Please note that BlueJeans meetings are public spaces; anybody with the appropriate links can join those meetings, so they are not ideal for private conversations. Quick, general questions are best for the BlueJeans hour. Schedule an appointment for more personal conversations.

You can join Bluejeans drop-ins at these hours: (Cancelled Nov 24 and 26, 2020)

Mondays 8:30-9:30 am (Eastern Standard/Daylight Time):  https://bluejeans.com/4007039561
Thursdays 3:00-4:00 pm (Eastern Standard/Daylight Time):  https://bluejeans.com/4007039561

NOTE: Advising via videoconference makes ensuring FERPA privacy difficult.  Advisors will conduct video advising in a private location and recommend that students do the same to limit the amount of information which could be overheard by others in the vicinity.  By agreeing to videoconference-advising, students are confirming they understand this situation.
